Oh Duck! is a single-player rubber-duck adventure down the Mississippi River for phones, tablets, computers and consoles. This policy explains in plain English what the app does and does not do with information, and why.
The short version:
- We, the makers of Oh Duck!, do not collect or receive any personal information about you, and we never sell it. There are no accounts, no chat and no sign-in.
- The free Apple App Store and Google Play versions show ads from Google AdMob. Google's ad software may process some device information to show and measure those ads.
- Every ad request is marked as directed to children. That means Google does not show personalized (interest-based) ads or remarketing ads in Oh Duck!, and the app does not track you across other companies' apps and websites. This applies to everyone, whatever their age.
- On the Apple App Store and Google Play you can buy Remove Ads once. Apple or Google handles the payment; we never see your payment details.
- The Amazon Appstore version is a paid download with no ads and no in-app purchases.
- Your game progress stays on your own device.
1. What stays on your device
To remember your progress, the game keeps a small save file on your device. It contains only game information:
- your bread count;
- which levels you have finished and your stars;
- which duck skins and hats you own and which ones you are wearing;
- your settings: music and sound volume, haptics, graphics quality, screen orientation and tilt steering;
- whether you have bought Remove Ads, and when you last collected the free-bread reward.
This file is not sent to us or to anyone else. You can erase it at any time with Settings > Reset Save, or by uninstalling the app. Resetting the save does not cancel a purchase: Remove Ads belongs to your store account and comes back with Restore in Settings.
2. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free Apple App Store and Google Play versions of Oh Duck! are supported by ads from Google AdMob, part of Google LLC. The app uses Google's Google Mobile Ads software. Three kinds of ads may appear:
- a banner at the top of the screen;
- a full-screen ad between levels;
- optional "reward" ads. You can choose to watch one to double the bread from a level (2x bread), to get an extra heart after a game over, or to get free bread in the Wardrobe. These only play when you tap the button.
Ads are child-directed and not personalized. The app marks every ad request as directed to children under the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and as coming from a user under the age of consent in the EU and UK. Because of this:
- Google does not use information from Oh Duck! to build an advertising profile about you;
- Google does not show interest-based (personalized) ads or remarketing ads;
- the app does not use your device's advertising ID (the Android advertising ID or Apple's IDFA) and does not show Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission request, because it does not track you across other companies' apps and websites.
What Google may process to show these ads. To deliver, limit and measure ads and to prevent fraud and abuse, the Google Mobile Ads software built into the app may send Google:
- your IP address, which can indicate an approximate location such as your city or region;
- basic device and app information, such as the device model, operating system, language and app version;
- information about how ads are shown and tapped (app interactions);
- diagnostic and crash information from the ad software;
- other device or app identifiers that Google uses for ad delivery, limiting how often an ad is shown, measurement and security (these are not the advertising ID and are not used for personalized ads).
We do not receive this information. Google handles it under its own policies:
- How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Your choices:
- Buy Remove Ads (Apple App Store and Google Play) to turn off the banner and the ads between levels. Reward ads stay available, but only if you choose to watch one.
- Where the law requires it, for example in the EU, UK or Switzerland, Google's consent tool (the Google User Messaging Platform) may ask for your choices when the app starts. When privacy options are required, a Privacy button appears in the game's Settings so you can review them. Your choices are stored on your device by Google's software.
- You can reset or limit your device's advertising settings in the device settings (iOS Settings > Privacy and Security > Apple Advertising, or Android Settings > Privacy or Google > Ads).
- You can turn off the internet connection for the game. It plays fine offline and no ads load.
3. In-app purchase: Remove Ads
On the Apple App Store and Google Play you can buy Remove Ads once. Apple or Google handles the whole payment under their own terms and privacy policies, and we never see your name, card number or other payment details. The store simply tells the app that Remove Ads was bought, and the app remembers this in its save file. Settings > Restore restores the purchase on a new device. Remove Ads unlocks no game content.
To talk to the stores the app uses Unity In-App Purchasing, a software library from Unity Technologies. While processing a purchase it connects to the store and may also send Unity limited technical purchase information, such as the product ID, the result of the purchase, the platform and app version, and a random installation identifier, which Unity uses to operate and monitor purchase processing. It does not contain your name or email address, and we do not use it to identify you. See Unity's privacy policy at https://unity.com/legal/privacy-policy for details.
The Amazon Appstore version has no purchases and no purchase code.
4. Amazon Appstore, computer and console versions
- Amazon Appstore: a paid download. It contains no ads, no in-app purchases and no advertising or consent software, and it sends nothing about you to us or to any ad company.
- Mac, Windows and console versions: no ads, no purchases and no internet features. They collect nothing and keep only the save file described in section 1. On consoles, the platform may store that save file in its own cloud-save service, under the platform's privacy policy.
5. Tilt steering (motion sensor)
If you turn on Tilt to Steer in Settings, the app reads your device's motion sensor while you play to steer the duck. These readings are used instantly on your device and are never stored or sent anywhere. Tilt steering is off unless you switch it on.
6. Vibration (haptics) and game controllers
With haptics on, the app makes your phone or game controller vibrate during play. This uses only the device's vibration motor or the controller's rumble. Controller input is used only while you play and is never stored or sent anywhere. You can turn haptics off in Settings.
7. Internet use and permissions
The game itself plays fully offline. On the Apple App Store and Google Play versions, the app connects to the internet only to load ads (Google AdMob and its consent tool) and to check or make the Remove Ads purchase through the store. We do not run any servers for the game. There are no accounts, no chat and no sign-in. Oh Duck! is built with the Unity engine; we have switched off Unity's optional analytics, crash-reporting and performance-reporting services, so Unity receives no information about your play beyond the purchase information in section 3.
On Android the Google Play version asks for these permissions:
- Internet and network state: to load ads and to reach Google Play for the purchase;
- Vibration: for the haptic feedback you can switch off in Settings;
- Billing: to make the one Remove Ads purchase through Google Play;
- Wake lock and foreground service: standard permissions that Google's ad and Play software libraries may use to finish their work reliably.
Because ads are child-directed, the Android app does not ask for the advertising-ID permission. It never asks for access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos or storage. On iPhone and iPad the app asks for no permissions at all and does not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt. The Amazon Appstore version asks only for vibration.
When you download the app, the Apple App Store, Google Play or Amazon Appstore may collect their own information (such as download and device details) under their own privacy policies. We do not receive personal information from them.
8. Children
Oh Duck! is made for the whole family. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (COPPA, United States) or under 16 (GDPR, EU and UK), and the app is designed to meet the Google Play Families Policy.
- Ads in the app are always requested as child-directed and non-personalized, as described in section 2. We ask Google to keep ads suitable for a family audience.
- The game has no chat, no user accounts, no social features and no links to other websites.
- Purchases go through Apple's and Google's own payment screens, which have their own parental controls (Apple Ask to Buy and Screen Time, Google Play Family Link and purchase approvals).
Parents or guardians with questions can contact us at the address below.
9. Your rights and how long data is kept
We do not hold personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. Your game data is the save file on your device, which you control (section 1) and which is deleted when you uninstall the app. For information Google processes for ads, see Google's policies linked in section 2 and the choices listed there. Purchase records are held by Apple or Google under their policies, and you can manage them in your store account. If you live in the EU, UK, California or another place with privacy laws and want help with a request about ad data, contact us and we will point you to the right place.
We never sell or rent personal information.
10. Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this policy and the effective date above before the change ships. The newest version is always at the address where you found this page.
